During our recent Easter stay at the White Horse Inn in the charming village of Sutton, I found the perfect blend of historical elegance and modern comfort that appealed to both my archaeological sensibilities and the aesthetic tastes of my companions. The inn, dating back to the 15th century, has been beautifully restored while retaining its character, with light-filled rooms—each named after celebrated racehorses—boasting high-standard amenities and delightful views of the surrounding South Downs National Park. The dining experience was exceptional; the menu reflected local culinary flair and could very well rival Michelin standards. Our first morning presented a challenge with an early wedding, yet General Manager Billy Lewis-Bowker impressively arranged for fresh pastries to be delivered to our rooms, showcasing the thoughtful service that permeated our stay. If you’re drawn to a tranquil location steeped in history and remarkable dining, all while being conveniently close to Goodwood Racecourse, the White Horse Inn is undoubtedly a destination worth exploring. I know I’ll return, either solo or with like-minded friends ready to wander the rich landscape of West Sussex.
